Sizing and development of an electromagnetic wheel for a minimalist “fixie” type bicycle, capable of providing assistance to the cyclist during starts and recovering energy during braking.
Based on the rules laid down by legislation (25 km/h and 250 W) the motor has been dimensioned using electromagnetic simulations to determine the best topology of magnets and coils (with or without magnetic channelling), while respecting the constrained volume of the bicycle wheel.
In this motor, the coils are positioned at the rotor and independently controlled, making this technology robust and extremely flexible in terms of design.
In terms of use, this new type of motor works like a DC motor.
